🌰 The Premium Macadamia Nut Selection
The Macadamia is the "King of Nuts," prized for its buttery texture and high oil content. These trees are beautiful, dense evergreens that provide excellent privacy screening while producing the most sought-after nuts in the world.
Macadamia Nut Tree (Beaumont)
The Buttery Gold: Macadamias are remarkably well-suited to the coastal Eastern Cape. They are hardy, drought-tolerant once established, and stay green all year round.
Nut Profile: Round, creamy-white kernels encased in an incredibly hard, protective brown shell. The flavour is rich, sweet, and unmatched by any other nut.
Requirements:
 - Climate: Loves the humid, frost-free air of Gqeberha. They are wind-tolerant but benefit from being planted in a group to create their own micro-climate.
 - Landscape Value: Grows into a large, rounded tree with dark green, holly-like leaves and spectacular hanging "racemes" of fragrant pink or white flowers in spring.
 - Soil: Requires well-draining, slightly acidic soil. We recommend mixing our Triple Mix Farm Soil (R50) with a bag of Mulch Compost (R40) when planting.
Pollination: While mostly self-fertile, planting two or more trees ensures a much heavier nut set.
Water: Needs consistent moisture during the flowering and nut-setting stage (August to October). Use our Bark Chip Mulch (R55) to trap moisture in the soil.
📍 Pot & Barrel "Die Plaas" Tip:
Macadamias are long-term investments! It takes a few years to get your first harvest, but a mature tree can produce for over 40 years. Because the shells are so hard, you’ll need a specialized macadamia cracker—or a very sturdy hammer—to get to the "gold" inside!
