🌿 The Miracle Tree: Moringa SelectionÂ
The Moringa Tree (Moringa oleifera) is widely regarded as one of the most useful trees in the world. Every part of the tree—from the leaves and pods to the roots—is edible and packed with an incredible concentration of vitamins, minerals, and proteins.
The Nutritional Powerhouse: Moringa leaves contain more Vitamin C than oranges and more potassium than bananas. It is a must-have for any "Urban Farm" focused on self-sufficiency and healthy living.
Harvest Profile: Known for its rapid growth, Moringa can reach up to 3 metres in its first year! The bright green, feathery leaflets can be harvested year-round to be eaten fresh in salads, cooked like spinach, or dried into a potent nutritional powder.
Requirements:
 - Climate: Moringa loves the heat! It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once established. While it thrives in the Gqeberha sun, it is sensitive to frost, so ensure it is planted in a warm, north-facing spot or a large pot that can be moved if temperatures drop.
 - Sun: Requires full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) to reach its full growth potential.
 - Soil: Excellent drainage is essential. Moringa has a deep taproot and does not like "wet feet." We recommend planting with our Triple Mix Farm Soil (R50) to ensure a loose, sandy-loam texture.
 - Watering: Water regularly while the tree is young to establish the root system. Once mature, it is remarkably water-wise and survives dry Eastern Cape spells with ease.
 - Pruning: To keep the nutrient-rich leaves within reach, we recommend "topping" the tree regularly. This encourages a bushier habit and more leaf production.
📍 Pot & Barrel "Die Plaas" Tip:
Don't forget the "Drumsticks"! In its second year, the Moringa will produce long, bean-like pods. When young, these pods can be cooked like green beans and have a delicious, asparagus-like flavour. Use our CFT Liquid Fertilizer (R80) to support the rapid biomass production of this incredible tree.
