🍑 Our Select Peach Tree Varieties
Peaches are the crown jewels of "Die Plaas." Whether you are looking for a firm yellow peach for traditional South African canning or a honey-sweet white dessert peach for fresh eating, we have the perfect tree for your garden.
Oom Sarel Peach Tree
The Canning King: A legendary South African yellow-clingstone variety. It is the gold standard for home preserving because its firm, non-melting flesh stays perfect in jars without falling apart.
Fruit Profile: Large, round, and deep orange-yellow with a small pit. The flavour is rich, sweet, and classic—exactly what you want for a traditional "perske-konfyt."
Requirements:
 - Yield: An incredibly heavy cropper; thinning the fruit in early summer is essential to prevent branches from snapping.
 - Hardiness: Extremely tough and reliable in the Eastern Cape climate.
 - Feeding: Use our CFT Liquid Fertilizer (R80) in early spring to support the massive fruit set.
Earligrande Peach Tree
The Coastal Champion: Specifically bred for low-chill areas, the Earligrande is arguably the best choice for Gqeberha’s coastal climate, as it doesn't require a freezing winter to produce fruit.
Fruit Profile: Large, yellow-fleshed fruit with a beautiful red blush over a yellow background. It ripens very early in the season, often ready for picking in late October.
Requirements:
 - Disease Resistance: High resistance to common coastal peach leaf diseases.
 - Sun: Needs a full-sun position to develop its high sugar content early in the year.
 - Soil: Thrives when planted with our Triple Mix Farm Soil (R50) for optimal drainage.
San Pedro Peach Tree
The White-Flesh Dessert: A premium white-fleshed variety prized for its delicate floral aroma and exceptionally high sugar content.
Fruit Profile: Medium to large fruit with a creamy-white skin and a soft pink blush. The flesh is melting, juicy, and sweet—perfect for fruit salads or eating fresh off the tree.
Requirements:
 - Placement: Prefers a slightly sheltered spot in your garden away from the direct, salty PE wind.
 - Water: Needs consistent moisture during the heat of December to ensure the fruit stays juicy.
 - Mulch: Use Bark Chip Mulch (R55) to keep the root zone cool.
Novadonna Peach Tree
The Versatile Modern Favourite: A yellow-fleshed clingstone that bridges the gap between a canning peach and a dessert peach. It is firm enough for the jar but sweet enough for the lunchbox.
Fruit Profile: Very attractive, round fruit with a deep red skin. The flesh is firm, sweet, and holds its flavour exceptionally well after picking.
Requirements:
 - Growth: A vigorous grower that provides lovely summer shade for your patio.
 - Care: Responds well to annual winter pruning to keep the "fruiting wood" productive.
Snowhite & Snowcrest Peach Trees
The Gourmet "Champagne" Peaches: These are the ultimate white-flesh dessert peaches, known for their intense fragrance and sub-acid (low tartness) profile.
Fruit Profile: Snowhite is incredibly sweet and melting, while Snowcrest offers a slightly firmer texture with a classic white-peach "tang." Both feature snow-white flesh and beautiful ruby-red skins.
Requirements:
 - Climate: Performs best in well-drained soil; use our Potting Soil Farm Mix (R40) when planting.
 - Fruit Protection: Birds love these sweet white peaches—consider bird netting as the fruit begins to ripen!
Van Riebeeck Peach Tree
The Heritage Classic: A traditional South African white-fleshed variety that offers a nostalgic, old-fashioned peach flavour. It’s the tree many of us remember from our grandparents' gardens.
Fruit Profile: Large and juicy with a distinct pointed tip. The flesh is creamy white with red streaks near the pit.
Requirements:
 - Space: A fast-growing tree that needs room to spread its canopy.
 - Longevity: Known for being a long-lived and resilient variety.
